The September 2017 Book Fair was another huge success, with takings of an incredible 11,294€ (after expenses). This enables Phoenix to continue its work in rescuing and rehoming animals in need, so a big thank you to those who came and spent their euros.

Following the appeal in April for new volunteers, we were thrilled to see so many new helpers in the Phoenix Book Team. We are forever grateful to our dedicated members who work so hard in making this event so successful.

The Bergerac SPA had a stand next to our Phoenix marquee, so lots of canine activity. The SPA team brought along some dogs and we were delighted to see that two dogs, Jack and Chester, were adopted during the day and another, an elderly King Charles Spaniel, since. Phoenix managed a kitten adoption too. It is a good feeling for us to be working so closely together with the SPA.

We were lucky with the weather as it had been inclement during the previous week. So, for us the sun shone which was lovely for us all. Our guests were able to sit outside to eat and enjoy each others company in the sun. It was certainly a great atmosphere along with an array of Phoenix rescues soaking up the limelight. What a wonderful sight!

The catering team as usual, did us proud. Thanks must also go to the members and volunteers who baked and donated much of the delicious food that was on offer.

Finally huge thanks must go to Christine Korzaan. Christine has coordinated the book team for many years. From organising the books every week to the bi-annual book fairs, Christine has been the pivotal person to make it work. Christine has now decided to take a step back and hand over the management to others. However, with her love of animals she will continue to be an Indian but not the Chief. The Phoenix Conseil would like to thank Christine for all her hard work and dedication over the years.

On behalf of all the Phoenix Rescues, we would also like to thank everyone who supported the fair in one way or another and for making this day so memorable. The next book fair, in the spring, will be advertised on our events page.

See you in the Spring!
